Add gift wrap as a gift variant

Connect a gift product, and then add a variant for each gift choice, with its own name and price.

You can charge for gift wrap, or offer customers more than one gift choice, with a gift product. One gift product holds every choice: each variant is one choice, with its own name and price.

Where to find it

  1. In Wrapped, open Gifting for Products or Gifting for Orders.

  2. Press Open editor.

  3. Under Settings, press Gift product.

Connect a gift product

Without a gift product, the gift option is free: customers check a box to mark a gift and can add a gift message. To charge for gift wrap, connect a gift product. The Gift product panel shows Sell gift wrap, boxes or cards with two buttons:

  • Create gift product makes a new product in Shopify, publishes it to your Online Store, and connects it. It starts with one variant, Magical gift wrapping, priced at 5.99 in your currency.

  • Select gift product connects a product you already have in Shopify.

The gift product is connected as soon as you create or select it, and the panel shows its Variants list.

Add a gift variant

Each variant is one gift choice. Gift wrap is the example here, but a variant can be any gift choice, such as a gift box or a card.

  1. In the Gift product panel, press Add next to Variants. Shopify's Add variant form opens over the page.

  2. Enter the variant name, such as “Premium gift wrap”, in the field at the top of the form, and its price under Price.

  3. Press Save in the bar at the top of the form. The variant appears in the Variants list.

To change a name, price, or image later, open the gift product actions menu and press Manage. The product opens in Shopify's product editor. The same menu has Change to connect a different product, and Disconnect.

💡 The Gift product card on the gift option page has the same buttons: Create gift product, Select gift product, Add variant, and Manage product in the card's menu.

What customers see

The gift choices in the gift block are the variants of your gift product. Each choice shows the name, price, and image of its variant in Shopify. A variant without its own image shows the product image. To choose how the choices are laid out, see How gift choices appear in a gift block.

When a customer picks a gift choice, the gift variant is added to the cart as its own line item, at its price.
