The order note summary writes a simple overview of all gifting details into the order Notes field. This makes it easy for store staff to see gift options and their parent products at a glance. It works with both Gifting for Products and Gifting for Orders.
The order note summary is in addition to the line-item attributes and/or order attributes (gifting attributes) added by Wrapped.
Why use the order note summary?
Many fulfillment services and warehouse systems can only read the order note field. They cannot read line item properties or custom attributes. The order note summary puts all gifting info where those systems can see it. If you use a third-party logistics provider (3PL), this feature helps make sure they get the gifting details they need.
The order note summary also works great with external bundling apps like Simple Bundles or Shopify Bundles. It is fully compatible with Wrapped Bundles too. When items are part of a bundle, the summary groups them by their bundle ID. This makes it easy to match gifts to the right bundle.
How to turn it on
Open the Wrapped app in your Shopify admin.
Go to your Gift Option settings (either Gifting for Products or Gifting for Orders).
Find the "Order note summary" toggle in the side column.
Turn it on.
Press Save.
You can turn on the order note summary for each Gift Option type. For example, you can enable it for Gifting for Products but leave it off for Gifting for Orders, or vice versa.
What the order note summary looks like
Wrapped adds its summary between two marker lines at the top and bottom. Everything between those markers is the gifting summary. The details shown depend on whether the order used Gifting for Products, Gifting for Orders, or both.
Gifting for Products
For each gifted product, the summary lists:
Product name and quantity
SKU (if available)
Bundle ID (if the item is part of a bundle)
All gift fields the customer filled in, such as gift message, sender name, and receiver name
When items are bundled, they are grouped together under the same Wrapped Bundle ID so you can see which gifts go together.
Gifting for Orders
For order-level gifting, the summary lists the gift fields that apply to the whole order, such as gift message, sender name, and receiver name.
Since Gifting for Orders applies to the entire order, there are no Wrapped Bundle IDs (all items are gifted when using this gift option).
Good to know
Runs after the order is created. The note summary is added shortly after the order comes in. It is not instant, but it usually appears within a few seconds.
Be careful with other apps that write to the order note. If another app or automation also changes the order note, the last one to save wins. This is how the Shopify API works. If you have other apps that update order notes, check that they do not overwrite each other.
Existing notes are kept. If the order already has a note (for example, a customer note), Wrapped adds its summary below the existing note. It does not erase what was already there (this typically happens if you have too many processes adding to the same order note field). If you run into conflicts, you may need to build your own Shopify FLOW automation to handle this complexity.
Use Shopify Flow. If your needs exceed the capabilities of the Order Note Summary feature, we recommend building your own automation in Flow (a free app by Shopify).
