Make gift wrap an optional choice

Let customers mark a gift and write a gift message for free, with gift wrap as a separate checkbox they tick.

You can let customers mark a gift and write a gift message for free, with gift wrap as a separate choice they tick. Turn on Gift choices are optional, and the gift block shows a second checkbox above your gift choices.

Where to find it

  1. In Wrapped, open Gifting for Products or Gifting for Orders.

  2. Press Open editor to open the Gifting editor.

  3. Under Settings, press Gift product.

  4. Turn on Gift choices are optional, above Gift choices appearance.

  5. Press Save.

The preview in the Gifting editor updates when you turn the switch on. Your online store changes when you press Save. Your gift choices are the variants of your gift product. To set them up, see Add gift wrap as a gift variant.

💡 The switch needs a gift message, gift sender, or gift receiver field turned on. Until one is on, the switch is greyed out.

What customers see

The checkbox appears above the gift choices in the gift blocks of this gift option: on the product page, in the cart drawer, on the cart page, and in checkout.

Left unticked, the gift choices are subdued. The customer fills in the gift message fields and presses Save, at no charge.

Ticked, the gift choices are active and the customer picks one. The Save button shows its price in the customer’s currency. A free gift choice shows no price on the button.

Edit the checkbox label

The checkbox reads “(Optional) Add gift option” by default. To change it, under Settings in the Gifting editor, press Text. Edit Optional gift heading under Gift choices, and then press Save.

Orders with a gift message and no gift choice

A gift order with a gift message and no gift choice arrives like any other gift order. The gift details are on the order, and there is no gift product line item.

Recap

  • Turn on Gift choices are optional in the Gift product panel of the Gifting editor, and then press Save.

  • Customers who leave the checkbox unticked save their gift message for free.

  • Customers who tick it pick a gift choice and pay its price.

  • Edit the checkbox text in Optional gift heading, in the Text panel.

Important notes

  • Leave prices out of the checkbox label. The Save button shows the real price in each customer’s currency.

  • Gifting for Products and Gifting for Orders each have their own switch. Turn it on in each one you use.
